ISLAMIC CULTURAL CENTRE (2017)

With increased hostility between cultures Located on the upper east side of New York City, the structure encourages cross-cultural participation of daily activities as means of social and cultural production.

 

GOAL

The Islamic Cultural Centre aims to subvert the traditional experience of spirituality, being a secluded and linear progression from the profane to the sacred. What if architecture embraced the impermanence of human activity and communal festivities? What if a building could adapt to the needs and wants of it's inhabitants, in accordance to both the Islamic Calendar and that of the local communities.

 

PROGRAM

The Islamic Cultural Centre is a programmatic journey equipt with a range of ammenities that facilitate cross-cultural social production. This multi-purpose complex includes a fitness centre (gym, pool & courts), seasonal markets, commercial kitchens, islamic schools and a designated space for religious practices.
